Cookie Policy — The crunchiest page on this site

The short version, for people in a hurry: no profiling cookies, no advertising, no tracking. Only one thing requires your consent — Google Fonts — and we load it only if you click "Accept" in the banner. If you decline, the site works just fine with system fonts. That's it. You may now go back to watching robots extinguish fires.

What cookies are (and their crumbly cousins)

Cookies are small files that websites store in your browser to remember something about you: preferences, sessions, or — on less friendly sites — where you've been and what you like, to be resold to advertisers. Cookies also have cousins, like localStorage: same pantry, different jar.

What we use

Profiling or marketing cookies: zero. We don't know who you are, we don't want to, and we tell no one — because there's nothing to tell.
Analytics: zero. No counters, no heatmaps, no prying eyes.
Strictly necessary: one technical localStorage entry (named mtph-consent) that stores your consent choice — "accepted" or "rejected" — so the banner doesn't ask you on every visit. Storing your choice doesn't require consent: it is the choice.
Functional, only with your consent: Google Fonts typefaces (see below). If you decline, no third-party server is contacted at all.

Third-party services (only if you accept)

This site's typefaces (Oswald, Quicksand, IBM Plex Mono) are served by Google Fonts and are loaded only after you click "Accept" in the banner. In that case your browser sends a request to Google, which receives your IP address as with any web resource. Google states that Fonts requests are not used for profiling; for the details, see Google's privacy policy. If you decline, the site uses the fonts already on your device: less elegant, zero external requests.

Changing your mind

Consent can be withdrawn (or granted) with one click, at any time:

Alternatively, from your browser you can block or delete any stored data: everything is in the privacy settings of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge. If you delete our crumb, the banner will greet you again next time. We'll both survive.
